Obesity is known to be widespread like an epidemic. For example, in the US alone, almost 75 million adults and 12 million children are obese, these figures doesn’t include the number of overweight people. Hence, one can derive from the numbers about how obesity has enveloped the entire world which really needs to be checked. Obesity is defined by the BMI i.e. the Body mass Index, a BMI of 25-29 puts a person under overweight category. By losing weight one can reverse the health risks. Few of the reasons for losing weight are as follows;
- Reverse the risk of Cancer- Overweight people have four times the cancer risk, probably and for the same reason women are at increased risk for breast cancer: Body fat produces estrogen, a hormone linked to the later disease. Likewise, University of Minnesota researchers found that leptin, a hormone associated with weight gain, enhanced the proliferation of both normal and cancerous breast cells. So if one loses weight he/she can protect themselves from cancer.
- It helps to stay Sharp- Obese people those who have large bellies at midlife, are 260% more likely to develop dementia. The bigger the belly the greater the risk, perhaps because of hormones or inflammatory factors produced by the abdominal fat itself.
